General Election 2016: Steve Pearce vs Merrie Lee Soules
When you go to the polls next month, you won’t just be voting for president. In Socorro County a total of 7 seats are contested in this election. One of the most important contests this year is the United States Representative for District 2. Running for this key seat in the House are incumbent Steve Pearce(R) and challenger Merrie Lee Soules(D). Representative Pearce is the only Republican member of the NM Congressional delegation, and also the only Republican from a Mexican-American border district. District 2 (which covers most of southern NM) has only gone blue once in its history; however, 42% of registered voters are democrats, vs 36% registered republican, so a change is not unimaginable.
